Design and Build Quality:

The Penon Fiery is made of high purity crystal copper wire material, which has 4 cores with 19 strands per core.

As I have motioned before the Penon Fiery is available in two connector options, which is the 2-Pin (0.78mm) variant and the one with MMCX (Micro Miniature Coaxial) male connectors.

The cable has a transparent PVC insulation that is fairly soft and elastic and shows a pretty low and quite acceptable level of micro-phonic effect.

My sample came with the MMCX connectors which sports a black metal housing with carbon fiber pattern that looks of high quality.

Near the Strain relief of the MMCX connector housing are the red & blue rings that are for the Left (Blue) and Right (Red) indication.

The Penon Fiery Upgrade Cable has a Y splitter with metal housing and carbon fiber patterned that sport the FIERY branding in gold color. The cable has also a metal chin slider with a circle shape which is in black color.

The Fiery has straight profiled headphone housing has also the same metal shell with carbon fiber pattern and sports the Penon branding in gold color. The 2.5mm balanced jack (also available in 3.5 mm unbalanced versions) is gold plated.

The cable is not too heavy and is showing a great craftsmanship.

The Sound:

I have tested the Penon Fiery in general with my iBasso IT01 and the iBasso IT01s because both are pretty sensitive to cable rolling.  The general sound character of the Penon Fiery is slightly warmer than neutral, with fast and deep bass, sweet & soft midrange and a clean – bright and controlled treble range.

iBasso IT01 Stock Cable versus Penon Fiery:

The iBasso IT01 with the stock cable is showing an average bass speed with good depth and slam effect. After connecting the Fiery to the IT01 I have noticed an increase of speed and tightness of the bass. The bass sounds also cleaner and brighter than before, while it shows slightly less quantity.

The midrange of the stock IT01 cable is slightly recessed due to the V shaped sound signature. The midrange presentation of the Penon Fiery is slightly brighter cleaner. Female vocals sounding more airy, while male vocals are showing less thickness but higher clearness compared to the stock cable.

The Penon Fiery shows also improvements in the clearness and separation of instruments.

The Penon Fiery has increased the extension, airiness and sparkle of the IT01 compared to the stock cable. The treble became also noticeably cleaner and transparent.

iBasso IT01s Stock Cable versus Penon Fiery:

The bass of the stock IT01s cable has in general a good speed with an average depth and impact. The bass of the Penon Fiery combination is showing better depth and more impact, while the bass is slightly faster with the stock cable.

The midrange of stock cable is pretty balanced and has a bright and transparent tonality, without any remarkable harshness. The midrange tonality of the Penon Fiery is warmer and has a more emotional presentation compared to the stock cable. The level of airiness with female vocals is quite similar with those of the stock cable, while the depth and thickness has been slightly increased with male vocals.

The Instruments are showing better separation and clearness with the Penon Fiery compared to the stock cable.

The treble range of the IT01s with the stock cable is bright and has shows an average airiness. The treble extension and intensity is on a moderate level without to shows sibilance or harshness. The Penon Fiery cable on the other is showing a slightly better treble extension, airiness and upper treble sparkle. The treble range is also more noticeable and is showing more transparency, which is one of the main reasons why the IT01s sounds fairly more detailed compared with the stock cable.

Conclusion:

The Penon Fiery is a beautiful and well crafted cable that is able to noticeable improve the sound quality. It was able to improve the speed and depth of the bass, transparency and airiness of the midrange and extension + resolution of the treble range.

Pros and Cons:

  • + Great build quality and Beautiful appearance
  • + Improvements in all frequency regions
  • + Rich accessory package

  • – Slight decrease in bass quantity

How the Fiery matched with the Atlas? Changed anything and in which way? Thank you,

    • Gökhan AYDIN says:

Hi Yiannis, I have paired the Atlas with the PENON Fiery and the most noticeable difference is the improvement of the resolution in the midrange region. The cable of the Atlas is pretty good and has already a great synergy with the Atlas. So if you want a slightly improvement of the midrange clarity and resolution the Fiery should be a good choice, otherwise no need.
