Design & Build Quality:
The HiBy R1 shows an ultra-compact and lightweight design, weighing just 70 grams thanks to its polycarbonate chassis and measuring 83.5 x 51.1 x 12.35mm. Its aesthetic is both modern and stylish, featuring a translucent chassis available in a variety of vibrant colors. This colorful design gives the R1 a unique and eye-catching look that stands out in the world of digital audio players.
The R1 is available in Orange, Black, White, Green and Blue color options.
The front of the HiBy R1 is dominated by a 3” 800×480 touchscreen. This display provides clear and detailed visuals, making it easy to navigate through your music library and enjoy album covers in high resolution. 
The intuitive user interface further enhances the user experience, allowing for effective interaction with the device.
The rear surface of the HiBy R1 maintains a minimalist design, elegantly displaying the brand name “HiBy” and the model “R1.” This clean and sophisticated look complements the overall aesthetic of the device, adding to its appeal.
At the bottom of the HiBy R1, you will find key interfaces, including a 3.5mm headphone output and a Micro SD slot for expandable storage. These interfaces are thoughtfully integrated into the design, ensuring that they do not detract from the device’s sleek appearance.

This ensures the device can adequately drive a variety of headphones, even those requiring a bit more power. Under nominal conditions with total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 1%, the output voltage is 1.5V and the output power is 70mW, which helps maintain audio clarity. The device’s minimum distortion rate is 0.001%, showcasing its ability to deliver clean audio at adjusted volumes.
The dynamic range of the HiBy R1 reaches up to 122dB at maximum volume, allowing it to handle a broad range of audio details. Its noise floor is low at just 1.3uV, which contributes to a good signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 122.3dB(A), ensuring clear audio with minimal background noise. Additionally, the HiBy R1 features a shortcut top bar, similar to Android OS, providing quick access to essential functions like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings. Battery Capacity & Duration:
The HiBy R1 is equipped with a 1150mAh battery, providing commendable battery life for such a ultra compact portable music player. According to official specifications, the HiBy R1 can deliver up to 15 hours of continuous playback and over 400 hours of standby time.
In my experience, the HiBy R1 consistently delivers around 13 to 13.5 hours of continuous playback at a volume level of 50, with the screen off and WiFi disabled. The battery life of the HiBy R1 offers a practical and efficient solution for those looking for reliable performance in their portable audio devices.

The HiBy R1 review has been written after a burn-in period of approximately 90 hours. My sound impressions below are mainly based on the R1 paired with IEMs like the HiBy Project ACE, HiBy Beans and the HiBy Yves. No MSEB settings were activated.
HiBy R1: A Budget-Friendly DAP with a Surprisingly Mature Sound
Bass:
The HiBy R1’s bass performance is commendable for its price range, delivering a tight and controlled low-end response. The sub-bass frequencies are well-extended, providing a solid foundation for genres like electronic and hip-hop, while maintaining a clean and precise decay. Tracks like Daft Punk’s “Doin’ it Right” and Lorde’s “Royals” showcase the R1’s ability to handle deep sub-bass with clarity. The mid-bass is dynamic and lively, adding punch and energy to the music.
