Muse HiFi Muse 300:

World’s First Desktop DAC/AMP with a Dedicated Operating System

Muse HiFi has officially launched the Muse 300, a groundbreaking desktop DAC and headphone amplifier that introduces an integrated custom operating system, which is according to Muse HiFi a first in the desktop audio category. Combining flagship ESS Sabre conversion technology with a large interactive display and versatile connectivity, the Muse 300 aims to serve as both a high-performance audio centerpiece and a modern, user-friendly hub for desktop hi-fi setups.

A New Approach to Desktop Audio: Muse OS

What truly sets the Muse 300 apart is its custom Muse OS, designed specifically for audio hardware. This operating system powers a large 5-inch IPS display (480 x 854 resolution) and enables intuitive navigation far beyond conventional button-controlled DAC/AMPs. Users can switch between three customizable UI themes, allowing the device to visually adapt to different desktop aesthetics — whether a clean minimalist setup or a more vibrant environment.

The interface is further simplified with an intuitive one-button control system that handles power on/off, input selection, volume adjustment, and mode switching. According to Muse HiFi, this combination transforms the Muse 300 into more than just an audio device; it can function as a convenient “second screen” for PC users while delivering high-resolution audio playback.

Audio Architecture:

At the core of the Muse 300 lies the flagship ESS ES9039 Ultra DAC chip, paired with 4th Generation HyperStream® IV architecture. This is supported by a carefully selected analog stage featuring:

  • OPA1612 low-pass filters (×2)
  • ES9603 I/V conversion chips (×2)
  • NE5532A sampling circuitry

Additional digital support comes from the QCC3095 Bluetooth chip and an AK4118 coaxial receiver, ensuring clean signal handling across all inputs.

The device supports a wide array of inputs: USB, Coaxial, Optical, and Bluetooth (with high-resolution codecs including aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, aptX-HD, LDAC, AAC, and SBC). On the output side, it offers both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA line outputs, plus dual headphone connections (6.35mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced), making it highly compatible with headphones, IEMs, and powered speakers.

Sound Performance Focus:

The engineering emphasizes low distortion, high dynamic range, and precise signal integrity. Early user feedback from audio communities highlights strong driving power and a clean, detailed presentation suitable for both demanding headphones and sensitive in-ear monitors. The inclusion of multiple gain levels and digital filters (typical of ESS implementations) allows users to fine-tune the sound to their preference.

Design and Build Quality:

The Muse 300 features a solid desktop-oriented chassis with a modern, premium aesthetic. The prominent 5-inch display not only shows track information, input source, volume level, and settings but also serves as the primary interaction point for the Muse OS. Build quality appears robust, aimed at enthusiasts who want a visually appealing and functional piece of desktop gear.
